What to expect on your visits to S1 Chiropractic

First visit:
Whilst social distancing and PPE measures are still in place, we have had to make some changes to the procedures within clinic.

Your New Patient Consultation will take place in 2 sessions. There is an all-in fee for this, which is due up-front. Once you've made your New Patient appointment, you will be sent a link to your Intake Form - please fill this out as fully as possible.

The first session is the "Question and Answer" session, which is done virtually over the video conferencing platform "Zoom". The Q and A session is where we take a comprehensive case history. You will be asked for some personal information. The chiropractor will then spend some time taking a full medical case history, including questions about your lifestyle (diet, exercise, daily routine and work habits) and accidents, illnesses and family medical history. All your details will be handled with the strictest confidentiality. This session will take up to 1/2 hour. At this session, your in-person assessment (the 2nd session) will be scheduled.

The second session is held at the clinic, and at this stage, an appropriate physical examination will be performed. This examination consists of standard orthopaedic, neurological and chiropractic tests and where necessary, blood pressure reading and examination of the abdomen or heart & lungs. You will normally be asked to remove some of your clothes relevant to the area/s being examined; gowns are provided for female patients and your dignity and privacy will be respected at all times.

Based on the examination findings the chiropractor will decide whether any additional investigations are necessary before treatment can begin. These may include X-rays or other forms of specialist diagnostic imaging such as MRI scans. In some cases it may be necessary to contact your GP, which your Chiropractor will do with your permission.

Report of Findings and First Adjustment:
Once a diagnosis and treatment plan have been established, you will be given a report of findings that will explain what is wrong with you in clear, plain, understandable language. You will be advised as to how many treatments you will need and what the costs are likely to be. We tailor our treatment and recommendations to suit the needs of your condition, your body, your lifestyle and your health goals. Treatment will commence on your second visit after you have been given a thorough report of findings.

If chiropractic treatment is not suitable for your condition, we will advise on the best alternative course of action.

Subsequent visits:
Follow up visits usually take approximately 15-20 minutes. As every case is individually assessed, the frequency and duration of treatment will vary between individuals and particular conditions.

More recent injuries (depending on severity) tend to respond to fewer visits and symptoms can often be managed in relatively few treatments.

Recurrent conditions or problems that have been present for longer than three months tend to be more stubborn and will often require a longer course of treatment.

In addition to your treatment, there will also be further discussions about your pain, which will include advice to help minimise its severity and accelerate your recovery. This advice will include home rehabilitation exercises to help your recovery and prevent unnecessary relapses, ergonomic/postural advice, do's and don'ts, and techniques for reduction of inflammation and pain. These measures will be further reinforced at each treatment session, including, if you work, appropriate advice regarding your job e.g. lifting, driving, workstation set-up etc. You will also have your treatment schedule discussed with you and subsequent appointment intervals will be recommended.

In some cases regular check ups may be useful in managing a particular condition and maintaining optimum function and mobility.
